§ 50Careers

A small team, working in plain view, hiring for taste and shipped work.

We are an unincorporated team operating remotely from around the world. We hire fellowships and contracts. We read every application from a person; we answer within seven days; we tell you the truth either way.

§ 01 / Working here

What working here actually looks like.

  • Small, remote, deliberate. The team is small on purpose. You will know everyone's name by the second week and the founders by the second day.
  • Pre-incorporation honesty. School of Quest is not yet a registered company. Roles are structured as fellowships or contracts. We will tell you, in writing, what each engagement actually is — duration, scope, terms — before you say yes.
  • Hired for taste and shipped work. We do not run leetcode rounds. We read what you have made, we talk to you for an hour, and we make the call.
  • Plain operating cadence. Daily standup, weekly 1:1, written reflections on Friday. The cadence is designed so that you are never left in a fog for more than 24 hours.
  • Honest evaluation. No surprise extensions. No silent “trial periods”. The conversation we have at week twelve is the conversation we have agreed to have at week one.
§ 02 / Four shapes we hire for

The four roles open right now.

Each is real. Each is small. Each is set up so the right person can join, ship something they will be proud of, and decide alongside us whether to stay.

Founding role · fellowship

Engineering · agentic systems

Build the parts of the platform that make it ours: the harness, Helm’s two-sided LLM, the Atelier surfaces, the eval scaffolds, the agentic plumbing. Plain code, careful prompts, and an instinct for the difference between an LLM that answers and one that earns trust. We treat prompts as code and evals as a love language.

Facilitator

Run real cohorts. Write quest spines. Lead Dojo sessions. Hold parent loops. The role is teaching adjacent to coaching — a fellow traveller who has done the work, not a teacher who has read about it. You bring your own quest of some kind to the table; that is what makes the room work.

Operator

Own the bedrock. Schema integrity, deploy hygiene, the worker, observability, the parent and instructor surfaces that orbit the student. Boring code that does not break. The kind of person who reads a Prisma migration and asks, on instinct, what it does to the rows that already exist.

12-week apprenticeship · one seat per cohort

Founding Internship

A founding internship inside the program — twelve weeks, fully remote, daily founder access. Five tracks (Frontier, Atelier, Observatory, Atlas, Polymath), one shipped capstone, an honest answer at week twelve. Conversion path to a founding role for the right candidate.

§ 03 / How to apply

Send a real letter, not a CV.

  1. One link. Anything you have made — a repo, a site, a paper, an essay, a recording — that you would want a stranger to see. The thing matters more than the credential next to it.
  2. A 400-word note. Which of the four shapes interests you and why. What you would want to ship in your first three months. What in the program made you write at all.
  3. One question — a real one — that you would want answered before you said yes.
  4. Send to foundersdesk@schoolofquest.com with the subject line Careers · <Role> · <Your Name>.

We respond to every application from a person, within seven days. If you are a fit, the next step is a forty-five-minute conversation with one of the founders. If you are not, we will tell you, and we will tell you why.

If three of the four sentences above made you want to write, write.

The team is small. The codebase is unusual. The mentorship is generous. The work is real.
